Honors
2009-2010
- 20 students were selected to the Northern Kentucky Select Band.
- 3 students auditioned and were invited to perform with the Cincinnati Junior Youth Wind Ensemble at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
- Jazz Ensemble I was voted the best overall middle school jazz band by the judges at the Northern Kentucky Jazz Festival. They were invited to perform and opened the evening concert for the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) Jazz Ensemble and the Beechwood High School Jazz Ensemble.
- The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade bands received straight Distinguished and Distinguished Plus ratings at the District 6 Large Ensemble State Assessment at NKU.
- Both the 7th and 8th grade bands received the Exemplary Performance Award at the Large Ensemble State Assessment. The judges bestowed this honor on the top 3 groups out of the 30 that performed. CMS has now been honored with the Exemplary Performance Award for 5 straight years, and this is the first time any middle or high school from the Northern Kentucky District has received two Exemplary Performance Awards in one year.
- The Jazz Ensemble and members of the Symphonic Band performed at the University of Kentucky in February along with members of the Beaumont Middle School Symphonic Band.
- Members of the Symphonic Band presented a demonstration clinic (with Mr. Daughters and Ms. Elliott) at the 2010 Kentucky Music Educators Association Conference in Louisville at the Kentucky International Convention Center. The clinic was one of the most attended and well-received events at the convention.
- Scott Labor and Keaton Hagins were nominated by Mr. Daughters and were accepted to attend the 2010 Young Leaders Convention in Washington, D.C. Scott and Keaton attended this week-long convention over spring break.
- The current 7th grade band has been invited to perform at the 2010 University of Kentucky Middle School Band Invitational in October of the upcoming school year. The group was invited along with only one other middle school in the entire state.
- Numerous students have been on honor rolls, performed at churches, community functions, and have served in leadership positions in our school.
2008-2009
- The 6th grade band, 7th grade concert band I and concert band II, and 8th grade bands received Distinguished and Distinguished Plus ratings at the District 6 Large Ensemble State Assessment at NKU.
- The 6th grade beginning band received the Exemplary Performance Award at the Large Ensemble State Assessment. The judges bestowed this honor on the top 3 groups out of the 30 that performed.
- 17 students were selected to perform with the Northern Kentucky Select Band.
- The Symphonic Band performed a joint concert in April with the University of Kentucky Symphony Band, George Boulden, Conductor, at Conner Middle School. The groups performed two combined pieces at the conclusion of the concert.
- The Jazz Ensemble performed at the University of Louisville Jazz Festival and the Northern Kentucky Jazz Festival.
2007-2008
- The 6th grade band, 7th grade concert band I, and symphonic bands received Distinguished and Distinguished Plus ratings at the District 6 Large Ensemble State Assessment at NKU.
- The Symphonic Band received the Exemplary Performance Award at the Large Ensemble State Assessment. The judges bestowed this honor on the top 3 groups out of the 30 that performed. In addition, this particular group received the ratings of I+, I++, I+, and I+ at festival.
- The Symphonic Band was a featured performing group at the KMEA State In-Service Conference in Louisville, KY.
- The Symphonic Band performed at the University of Kentucky in January as a KMEA Preview Concert.
- The Symphonic Band hosted and performed for Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher at Conner Middle School in September.
- Members of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade brass sections performed the national anthem at a Florence Freedom baseball game.
- 15 students were selected to perform with the Northern Kentucky Select Band.
2006-2007
- The 6th grade band, and symphonic bands received Distinguished ratings at the District 6 Large Ensemble State Assessment at NKU.
- The 6th grade beginning band received the Exemplary Performance Award at the Large Ensemble State Assessment. The judges bestowed this honor on the top 3 groups out of the 30 that performed.
- The Symphonic Band, on invitation, performed at the University of Kentucky Middle School Band Invitational in Lexington, KY.
