The Conner Middle School Band Program consists of over 300 students in grades 6 through 8. Our students participate in all grade level bands including Symphonic Band, Concert Band I, Concert Band II, 6th Grade Beginning Red Band, 6th Grade Beginning Black Band, and have opportunities to perform in Advanced Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Band II, Percussion Ensemble, and other small instrumental groups throughout the year.

This school year, our program will be represented with Symphonic Band performances at the 2012 National Concert Band Festival sponsored by Music for All and Yamaha, the 2011 National Middle School Conference, and a jazz ensemble performance at the 2012 Jazz Educators Network (JEN) International Conference and National Middle School Conference.  Terry Holliday, Kentucky Secretary of Education, will also guest conduct the Symphonic Band at the National Middle School Conference.

The Symphonic Band received the 2011 National Wind Band Honors Mark of Excellence Award with Kentucky Commendation and has past performed at the 2008 KMEA State Conference and was a demonstration group at the 2010 conference.  The band was invited to perform at the 2006 and 2010 University of Kentucky Middle School Band Invitational in Lexington, Kentucky. Since 2006, our bands have been recognized as the Exemplary Performance Ensemble in the District 6 Large Ensemble Assessments. In addition, Conner Middle School ensembles have earned distinguished ratings and first places awards at numerous concert and jazz festivals throughout the region. Our jazz ensemble performs at a variety of venues throughout our region and has been recognized for the past two years as the top middle school jazz ensemble at the Northern Kentucky Jazz Festival.  The group has opened performance for the NKU Jazz Ensemble, the CCM Jazz Ensemble, and the UK Jazz Ensemble. The band has just commissioned and present the world premier of a new piece by renowned composer John Mackey called “Foundry” that is available for purchase.

Conner Middle School regularly has one of the largest percentages of students in the Northern Kentucky Select Band (out of the seven Northern Kentucky counties) and currently has numerous students performing with the Junior Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. In addition, our students participate in several honor bands throughout Kentucky and the tri-state area.
